Spring, Rosé & a Mother’s Day toast to the women behind the wine

Spring has officially arrived in Sonoma County, and she’s showing off.

The vines are bursting with bright green growth, mustard flowers are in bloom, and the days are stretching into golden, rosé-sipping perfection. After a season of recovery and resilience following the fires, our community is alive, thriving, and more ready than ever to welcome you back.

Say Hello to Our Rosés

Spring at Spicy Vines also means one thing: bottling day for rosé. Our Violet Rosé and Rosé of Syrah are officially in bottle—and they’re stunning.

– Richer, deeper color than 2016
– Bursting with kiwi, raspberry, strawberry, and guava
– Gorgeous floral aromatics
– Balanced delicacy with elegant structure

These wines are the lovely ladies of our portfolio, dressed in bright pink, full of personality and poise.

Meet the Spicy Mamas Behind the Brand

At Spicy Vines, Mother’s Day holds a special place in our hearts—because two incredible women have shaped not just our story, but the spirit of everything we do.

Violet Rose Hackett
– The woman behind the rosé

If you’ve enjoyed a bottle of Violet Rosé, you’ve already met her—in spirit.

Violet Rose Hackett was the grandmother who raised our winemaker, Doug Hackett, alongside his brother in upstate New York. She was strong, generous, and endlessly wise, teaching lessons like:

Every breath matters.
Wealth has nothing to do with money.”

Doug recalls Sunday dinners, card games with church ladies, and yes—his first sips of wine (cut with water!) at Violet Rose’s table. A summer camp cook by profession and a force of nature by heart, she raised two boys with love, grit, and a whole lot of sass.

Her legacy lives on in our rosé: fun, bright, strong, and unforgettable.

Happy Mother’s Day, Violet Rose.

 Miss Rita Hoffman
– Mama, chef, creative spirit—our secret ingredient

If you’ve ever had a dish from Miss Rita’s Kitchen at a wine club party or Wine Road event, you know the flavor she brings—both in food and spirit.

Miss Rita is Crystalyn’s mom, a Stanford-educated globetrotter, film-industry alum, and former activist who helped shape the Women’s Movement in the ’60s and ’70s. Today, she channels that same bold energy into creating unforgettable pairings, managing event themes, and hustling harder than folks half her age.

“Rita is graceful, poised, and no-frills—but she’s also the kind of woman who’ll get a speeding ticket and laugh about it later,” says Crystalyn.

She’s the real deal, and we’re endlessly grateful to have her at the heart of our family and our winery.

Happy Mother’s Day, Miss Rita!

Here’s to the Women Who Raised Us

To the moms, grandmothers, sisters, mentors, and friends—
Thank you for your love, your wisdom, your grit, and your magic.

We raise our glass to you this Mother’s Day weekend—and every day after.

Cheers from all of us at Spicy Vines,
Crystalyn, Doug & the Team
